As our kiddos are preparing to go back to school, I'm increasingly mindful of the fact that our son Isaiah will be leaving home to head off to college for his freshman year at this same time next year. Some days that knowledge comes as a happy thought of exciting adventure, but other days, as I anxiously watch these moments slip away all too quickly, that thought can tug on my heartstrings and leave me teary eyed in the middle of the school supply aisle at Target. I bought that sweet little boy a bottle of Armani cologne for his first day of Kindergarten with the odd-ball hope that he would bring it with him when he left for freshman year of college. Strange, I know, but hats off to Armani, it's held up just fine. As a mom, I'm keenly aware that although the days can be long, the years pass much too fast.
To ease those deep exhale moments, I've been thinking through care package ideas to let him know that we're thinking of him and, if I'm honest, to encourage him to call home. Naturally, as any teenager would attest, his favorite gift is cash. He sort of reminds me of the kid from The Giving Tree these days...Perhaps you too are on the hunt for a gift to include in an off to college care package to send to your newly independent young man. Our genuine leather scripture verse wallets may help save the day. Add an encouraging message inscribed on a personalized handstamped or custom created wallet card insert for a one of a kind gift from the heart. Slip in a favorite photo or two and $20 for a late night pizza run and he'll be good to go.
Hang in there mama, God promises to go ahead of him (Deuteronomy 31:8 "The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."), and to walk with him (Isaiah 43: 2 "...When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you..." ). All will be well!
